A timebank on the banks of kindness

Do Good, and Cast It Upon the Waters

“Do good, and cast it upon the Dajleh (Tigris) River; for God will requite thee in the desert.” — Saadi Shirazi

Dajleh Timebank measures value not in money, but in human care. When you help a neighbour for an hour, you earn one time credit — and anyone’s hour is worth exactly the same as yours.

What is timebanking

One hour equals one hour. Always.

A lawyer’s hour and a grandmother’s hour, a teenager’s hour and a doctor’s hour — each is a piece of a human life, and each carries the same dignity. Timebanking is an economy built on that simple truth.

Market

Value set by price & scarcity
  • Wages rank people by income
  • Price tags on every act of help
  • Hierarchy decides whose time matters
  • Care work is invisible and unpaid

Timebank

Value set by shared humanity
  • Every hour earns the same credit
  • Mutual aid instead of transactions
  • Equal dignity for every contributor
  • Kindness is recognised and returned

Saadi’s wisdom

Kindness is a river that flows back to you

تو نیکی می‌کن و در دجله انداز
که ایزد در بیابانت دهد باز

Eight centuries ago, Saadi of Shiraz advised us to do good without calculating the return — to let it go into the Tigris, the Dajleh.

Every hour you give enters a river of community aid. It travels, it nourishes others, and when life’s dry deserts arrive — illness, a new baby, a lost job, old age — that river flows back to meet you.

You give It flows It returns

How it works

Three steps into the river

No cash, no invoices, no fine print. Just neighbours helping neighbours, with every hour counted fairly.

Create Your Profile

List what you love to offer — gardening, language practice, repairs, company — and the support you’d welcome in return.

Takes about 5 minutes

Give an Hour

Help a neighbour and earn 1 Kindness Credit — a Nik-Coin — for every hour you give, whatever the task.

+1 Nik-Coin per hour

Receive Support

Spend your credits whenever you need a hand. Asking for help is part of the gift — it lets someone else give.

Credits never expire
Nik-Coin “Nik” (نیک) means good in Persian. 1 Nik-Coin = 1 hour of anyone’s time — no more, no less.
Community impact

What flows through the network

Timebanks strengthen the everyday fabric of a neighbourhood — the threads that money alone can’t weave.

Breaks Isolation

Every exchange is a real connection. Newcomers, seniors, and people living alone become known and needed.

Eases Financial Stress

Get childcare, tutoring, repairs, or rides without spending money — and put your skills to work when cash is tight.

Honors All Lifespan Stages

Children, students, parents, elders — everyone has something to give, and everyone deserves care in return.
