Technically speaking, timebanking is reciprocal informal volunteering, where each member&nbsp;can&nbsp;offer&nbsp;skills&nbsp;and time, and request skills and time from other people in return.&nbsp;Timebanking is flexible and enables people to dip in and out as much as they like, donating their time&nbsp;as&nbsp;they wish. It works around your own lifestyle and existing commitments, and there&nbsp;are&nbsp;no obligations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>WHAT IF I DON\u2019T HAVE ANY \u2018SKILLS\u2019 TO SHARE?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">Everyone&nbsp;has something to offer \u2013&nbsp;even&nbsp;the simplest&nbsp;of&nbsp;tasks&nbsp;can&nbsp;have&nbsp;a positive&nbsp;impact&nbsp;on someone\u2019s life.&nbsp;Everyday&nbsp;activities such as&nbsp;chatting&nbsp;to someone,&nbsp;playing cards,&nbsp;reading aloud, picking up shopping, walking a dog or doing some ironing can make&nbsp;a&nbsp;real&nbsp;difference.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>WHAT IF I DON\u2019T HAVE MUCH TIME TO GIVE?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">The beauty of timebanking&nbsp;compared with&nbsp;traditional volunteering is that it\u2019s completely flexible:&nbsp;you only offer your time when you&nbsp;can and&nbsp;want to offer it.&nbsp;You could offer just one hour per week, per month, or even per year!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>HOW DO I GET OR GIVE TIME?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">Join your local time bank for FREE. Either way, check out our&nbsp;joining pages&nbsp;to get started.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>WHAT IF I DON\u2019T WANT ANYTHING BACK?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">Timebanking works best when&nbsp;members&nbsp;are both giving and receiving&nbsp;time. Ours is a reciprocal model, which means it\u2019s based upon&nbsp;<em>sharing<\/em>&nbsp;time \u2013&nbsp;and being&nbsp;able to share their skill can help some of our more isolated members develop a&nbsp;real&nbsp;sense of self-worth. However, if you really don\u2019t want to spend your time credits, you can donate them to another time bank member or the community pot,&nbsp;so&nbsp;that someone else in the time bank&nbsp;can&nbsp;benefit from&nbsp;them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>CAN I GIVE MY HOURS TO SOMEONE ELSE?&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">Yes, you\u2019re free to give your hours to a friend or family member, or you could give them&nbsp;to the&nbsp;time bank for the&nbsp;community pot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>WHAT<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>S A COMMUNITY POT?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">Many time banks have a community pot, which allows members to\u00a0donate\u00a0their time credits for others to use. For example,\u00a0if\u00a0someone has just come out of hospital, they may\u00a0need\u00a0more support\u00a0for a period of time but\u00a0may not have many\u00a0time bank credits\u00a0to spend.\u00a0The community pot\u00a0can\u00a0also\u00a0be used to help people\u00a0or organizations\u00a0who are not time bank members\u00a0but who would benefit from\u00a0informal community support. They may later decide to join the time bank, giving them an opportunity to \u2018give back\u2019\u00a0their own skills to help others.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>WILL TIMEBANKING&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>AFFECT MY BENEFIT<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;CLAIMS<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">The short answer is \u2018no\u2019.&nbsp;If you\u2019re claiming Universal Credit or other benefits&nbsp;that&nbsp;require&nbsp;you&nbsp;to look for work for 35 hours a week,&nbsp;timebanking&nbsp;may even&nbsp;count towards&nbsp;your&nbsp;jobseeking&nbsp;hours&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;but&nbsp;make sure you speak to your work coach about it first.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>DO I NEED MONEY TO ACCESS&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>A<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>T<\/strong><strong>IME&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>B<\/strong><strong>ANK?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">Timebanking is FREE for members, but if you\u2019re requesting a service, you&nbsp;might be&nbsp;expected to supply&nbsp;any&nbsp;materials unless you make arrangements with your exchange partner beforehand.&nbsp;For example,&nbsp;if you want someone to paint a door,&nbsp;you\u2019ll need to supply the paint, brush and protective sheet&nbsp;\u2013 or give your exchange partner the money to buy them for you.&nbsp;Time&nbsp;banks often&nbsp;have a bank of donated materials,&nbsp;so it\u2019s worth checking before you buy anything. Group activities run by&nbsp;time banks&nbsp;such as a knitting circle are&nbsp;free, but you may be expected to bring your own wool and needles \u2013 check beforehand to be sure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\"><strong>IS&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>TIMEBANKING<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;SAFE?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#566f32;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">The safety of all&nbsp;members is&nbsp;our top priority&nbsp;and&nbsp;each time bank will&nbsp;follow&nbsp;agreed&nbsp;policies and procedures,&nbsp;and have sensible safety measures in place:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-color is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"color:#566f32\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Local time bank members will meet&nbsp;prospective&nbsp;new members in person before they join&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All new members will be invited to participate in group activities and events before they begin to offer one\u2013to\u2013one exchanges&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time banks&nbsp;will&nbsp;risk\u2013assess activities carried out by members&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each member must agree to and sign a code of conduct.
