FOR EVERY HOUR GIVEN, YOU EARN AN HOUR IN RETURN.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In timebanking, you help someone for an hour (or thereabouts) \u2013 for example by mowing their lawn or doing their shopping. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For every hour of help you give, you earn an hour\u2019s credit from your time bank. You can spend your time credit by receiving an hour of someone else\u2019s time. For example, you could learn how to cook an apple pie, or get help with painting your fence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EVERYONE\u2019S TIME IS VALUED EQUALLY.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

No money is exchanged, although participants may agree to cover expenses such as petrol money. Everyone\u2019s time is valued equally: one hour of sharing your skills or helping others earns you one time credit, whatever the skill or task. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EVERYONE\u2019S SKILLS ARE USEFUL AND EVERYONE FEELS VALUED.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Timebanking works for everyone \u2013 individuals, organisations and society as a whole. People arrange to give time when it suits them, offering skills they enjoy using. It\u2019s a two-way process of giving time and receiving time \u2013 and everybody has skills they can offer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timebanking \u2013 what\u2019s so great about it?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Life has changed and our friends and family don\u2019t always live nearby. It\u2019s not always easy to ask someone for help, especially if that brings with it a feeling that we can never \u2018pay them back\u2019. Timebanking is a fun, unpressurised and informal way to enable people each other \u2013 and to bring out the best in everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participating in timebanking has the potential to transform individuals’ lives. Time bank members report that they learn new skills, meet new people, enjoy better self-esteem and self-confidence, and feel healthier. Members love sharing their passions \u2013 and they feel more involved in their community, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A typical time bank reported the following statistics for people who had been members for six months:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • 85% <\/strong>said they were meeting more people<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 80%<\/strong> felt more part of the community<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 74%<\/strong> has made new friends<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 74%<\/strong> experienced a lift in mood or reduced depression<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 69%<\/strong> felt they could ask for or receive more help<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 66%<\/strong> experienced reduced loneliness<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 60%<\/strong> said their quality of life, health and wellbeing had improved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
